I don't blog as much as I want to. I am going to try to be better, no promises.
The past year has been CRAZY.
I switched jobs. We started fostering a set of great toddlers. We had a failed adoption (and that's all I'll say about that). We sold our house. We're buying a new house.
But the technical world is just as crazy.
Since we are purchasing a new home, I'm looking forward to starting with a fresh clean slate.
We are under contract, so that's good. I'll make the assumption that we are going to get that house. Each bedroom is pre-wired to a central location in the basement where I will host the gear.
Preliminary research shows that I'll be on CenturyLink Fiber (gigabit). That's good too.
Coming from the mountain cabin, I only had 50 megabit service, my older Ubiquiti USG just isn't going to cut it. Not with IDS/IPS at least. I'm also starting to lose my appitite for Ubiquiti after their handling of the latest security incident and the Unifi Video discontinuation bits.
My desire is to cover each of these topics in greater detail in upcoming posts. But at a high level, I'm looking at:
- New Network Infrastructure
- New (on-prem) camera systems + doorbell interfaces
- Consolidated light systems
- HVAC / Thermostat automation
- More management around the on-prem services being offered
I know there's a lot here. But for now, it's time to pay the bills.
